Country Style Fabric Options – Country style is all about creating a relaxed and comfortable feel to your home, armchairs that you can sink into after a stroll in the countryside, cosy living rooms with log fires and welcoming kitchens. However you don’t need a country cottage to create this feeling in your home – by using the right country style fabrics and accessories any home can be turned into a beautiful country haven.
There are several country style fabric options to choose from so you can decide which ones work best for you depending on the style you prefer.
Florals are an obvious choice and work really well in a country scheme – think roses round the door way and cottage gardens. You can use large floral designs or small prints, roses, delphiniums, foxgloves all look good. Mixing prints of different sizes create a comfortable ambience.
Gingham checks are a traditional country print and look particularly good in a kitchen, mix with florals for an informal look. Ginghams come in all different sizes and colors so there is bound to be one that will look right in your kitchen. Some also come with other designs woven into them, those with chickens on would work well.
For a more contemporary country style look for prints depicting game birds or farmyard animals such as ducks, pigs and chickens. These prints can be coordinated very successfully with tartans.
Use fabrics for curtains, blinds and cushions and also for upholstery on armchairs and sofas.

If you are using lots of patterned fabrics then walls and floors are best kept plain and neutral. When considering floors, stripped floorboards are an obvious choice but if you don’t have them then engineered wood, laminate or reclaimed solid wood floors can look very smart, add rugs for texture and to give a cosy feel. If you’re lucky enough to have found a cottage with the original flagstone floors intact then this is a bonus!
