The Most Beautiful Home Libraries

October 15th, 2011

The paper book seems to be loosing ground on presence in our homes. This is unfortunate since the feeling of holding a book, turning the page, smelling the fresh paper and hearing the crinkle of paper is part of the allure of absorbing the words which string together to make a memorable story. No matter how large or how small your home, you can incorporate books or magazines.

Whether piled on a table, lined up on shelves in a hallway or perfectly cataloged in a special room, all your books should be together to create an impact and to encourage investigation and introspection.

Vintage Office Design: XSolve & Chilid

August 22nd, 2011

XSolve is a small, but quickly growing software house company situated in Gliwice, Poland. The guys mailed us with more information about their new headquarters (which they share with marketing agency Chilid): an amazing place meant to make its geeks more productive. Two floors, millwork and industrial components inside an old granary. While they’re still waiting for some design details to be taken care of (small additional “cosmétique things” like glass, stickers, lamps) they say “it’s great even without them”. We certainly love the way “old” (bricks, timber & cement) and “new” (contemporary furniture, lots of colors and plenty of computers) mix to create such a cozy environment. Would you like to work in such a place?

How To Organize Your Home Office?

May 18th, 2011

If you work from home, you need to set some ground rules.

Establish your working hours. Choose a time frame during which you will work each day. Try to keep this consistent, the way it would be if you worked away from home. By creating a schedule, you will make it easier for the rest of your family to respect your working hours.

Encourage respect of your schedule. Once you have established your work schedule, discourage interruptions while you are working. Develop a code to help remind younger children when you are not to be disturbed. Choose something easy for them to recognize like shutting the office door or setting an alarm clock.
